Michael Solomon, Ph.D., Professor of Marketing, delivered the keynote address to the 400 delegates who attended the ANZMAC (Australian New Zealand Marketing Academy) meeting in Christchurch, NZ in November. The title of his talk was "The Brand that isn't There: Marketing Strategies for Virtual Platforms." Prof. Solomon was recently named to the Senior Advisory Board of the Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice and also to the Advisory Board of the new journal Critical Studies in Fashion and Beauty. His article, "Digital Identity Management: Old Wine in New Bottles?," will be published in the journal's inaugural issue in early 2011.
Diane M. Phillips, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Marketing, premiered the video "Sustainability: A New Consumer Movement" produced with former students Adam Schmidt and Thomas Ferraro at the annual Association for Consumer Research Conference in Jacksonville, Fla. The video investigates what it means for a consumer to live a sustainable lifestyle and is available at www.exposureroom.com/sustainability.
Hollyanne Pronko graduated in 2009 from Saint Joseph's University. Among her many achievments while attending SJU was starting the very popular Community Day, being Class President and Vice President of Communications for the Senate. Hollyanne is now an Account Supervisor at CDM New York, a top-notch healthcare communications agency. Hollyanne had aquired this job from having an internship through SJU the summer before graduating. She believes that the marketing program gave her a well-rounded perspective and the knowledege that she obsorbed helps her to make informed decisions.
Advice She Offers for Students:
"Advertising and account management is a nice blend of business and creativity, best of both worlds, great culture yet your managing multi million dollar accounts"
"Make conncetions, persue those connections and take advantage of them even if you are not looking to get a job in that field."
Matthew Missimer is also a Saint Joseph's Alum. He works for Northwestern Mutual. Matthew came in to speak at an American Marketing Association event and offered great advice:
"You are a brand, wear what you want your brand to be while on interviews or presenting yourself."
