City of Philadelphia Returning to Learning Partnership

City HallThe College of Professional and Liberal Studies is proud to announce its membership with the City of Philadelphia Returning to Learning Partnership which offers a 25% tuition discount to City employees who wish to pursue a bachelor's degree.

Through the Returning to Learning Partnership, qualified City of Philadelphia employees with 45 or more previously earned college credits may choose from over 20 programs of study which include bachelor's degree programs that are supported through accelerated and full-term courses offered on weekday evenings, online, and half-day Saturdays. We offer qualified City of Philadelphia employees:

  • A 25% tuition discount per three credit course enrolled for City of Philadelphia employees who meet all of the requirements for admission and who enroll in a degree program at SJU's College of Professional and Liberal Studies (PLS).
  • $25 PLS application fee waiver.
  • The opportunity to meet for a pre-admission and transfer evaluation counseling appointment prior to submitting an application. 

GETTING STARTED! STEPS TO ENROLLING

  • Obtain your previous college(s) official transcripts (in a sealed envelope).
  • Contact PLS Admissions to schedule an individual pre-admission/transfer evaluation appointment: 610-660-1267 or 1-877-NITE-SJU.
  • Complete an online application. Please list that you are a City of Philadelphia employee.
  • If applicable, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov; Enter SJU's school code: 003367.
  • Receive an admission decision letter from PLS.
  • Print, complete, and submit the City of Philadelphia Employee Verification Form and required documentation to PLS, fax: 610-660-1264 or email: plsadmit@sju.edu.
  • Register for courses with a SJU admissions or academic advisor.
  • Tuition discount will be applied before the start of each semester or term.

City of Philadelphia employees who do not initially qualify to be admitted directly to Saint Joseph's University may begin their college degree through SJU's dual admission partner and fellow Returning to Learning member, Community College of Philadelphia (CCP). Employees who earn 45 or more credits at CCP may later apply to transfer to Saint Joseph's College of Professional and Liberal Studies. CURRENT SJU STUDENTS AND THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA DISCOUNT

Current SJU students who are employed by the City of Philadelphia must have 45 or more previously earned credits in order to be eligible for the 25% per course tuition discount. No retroactive awards for previously enrolled semesters or terms may be made.

To be eligible for the discount:

  • Register for courses for the semester or term in which the discount is to be applied.
  • Print, complete, and submit the City of Philadelphia Employee Verification Form and required documentation to PLS, fax: 610-660-1264 or email: plsadmit@sju.edu.
  • Verification form and letter must be submitted prior to the start of each semester or term enrolled.

IMPORTANT DATES AND DEADLINES

Deadlines for submission of employer verification form and letters:

  • FALL - September 6
  • SPRING - January 3
  • SUMMER - May 15

The City of Philadelphia Employee Tuition Discount applies only to the tuition charged to a student's account. It does not apply to other charges including but not limited to textbooks or course materials, experiential learning portfolios, credit by examination, parking decal, fees, fines or transcripts.
