Work Study

Emails concerning the 2012-2013 Federal Work Study Process will be sent to all eligible students who have accepted Work Study as part of their Award Package.  Please check your SJU email account for updates!!

The Federal Work Study (FWS) Program provides on-campus employment during the summer and academic year to undergraduate full time day students who demonstrate financial need. As part of its commitment to the community, the University is providing federal work study opportunities both on and off campus in community service learning positions. Students can work up to a maximum of 20 hours per week during the academic year and 35 hours per week during the summer. Students are paid on a biweekly basis for the hours worked the previous two weeks. Work study earnings are not deducted from the student’s charges. The minimum hourly rate paid is $7.25 per hour. Some rates will be higher depending upon the type of work performed and skills required. Pay rates are recommended by the employing department. FWS is awarded for a limited, specific award period and awards establish the maximum earnings per award period. Students that are close to exhausting their award but would like to continue working may contact the Financial Assistance office to request an increase in FWS funds. Due to funding limitations and job availability, the Office of Financial Assistance cannot guarantee job placement or award increases for all eligible applicants.

Procedure

Students who are awarded FWS should accept Work Study on their Award listed on MYSJU. Please log into the Career Development Center's system at www.sju.edu/careers for open positions and how to apply.
