Certified Driver Training


Any employee, faculty member, or student who drives a University-owned vehicle must go through a formal driver certification process.  This process is initiated by completing the Authorized Driver Application and Agreement Form (ADAFA) and submitting it to the Department of Public Safety.  After a series of checks and the successful completion of Van Driver/Defensive Driver Training, the applicant will receive a Certified Driver card.  This card will enable the driver to reserve a vehicle from Facilities Management or sign out a vehicle through their Departmental Sub-Motor Pool.

Van Driver/Defensive Driver Training is offered each semester, typically during the first few weeks to accommodate the student groups and activities that require students to become Certified Drivers.  The training sessions last about an hour and are usually scheduled during "free period."  Announcements about the training sessions are made through e-mail as well as the SJU Today tab on MySJU.

The Saint Joseph's University Transportation Policy provides specific information regarding vehicle requests and the operation of University-owned vehicles.  All applicants must review the Transportation Policy prior to completing the ADAFA.
