PSIP Student Coordinator and Student Leader Position Descriptions

The 2015 Philadelphia Service Immersion Program runs from Tuesday, August 18th to Saturday, August 22nd, 2014.

Availability: Coordinators—Friday, August 14th - Saturday, August 22nd; Leaders--Saturday, August 15th - Saturday, August 22nd; Note: Coordinator and Leader positions are volunteer.

Ideal applicants will have substantive service experience at SJU and a minimum G.P.A. of 3.0.

Student Coordinator Application Deadline: 5 pm on Sunday, April 5th, 2015. 

Student Leader Application Deadline: 5 pm Wednesday, April 8th, 2015.

Coordinator interviews will take place from April 7th through April 10th. 

Leader interviews will take place from April 11th through April 18th.

PSIP Student Coordinator

Student Coordinators are responsible for general oversight of the week of PSIP, as well as collaborating with school administrators and faculty to design and implement a specific program for the week.  Primary responsibilities include:

  • Working with Intern to select Student Leaders
  • Planning and facilitating Student Leader training with Intern
  • Acting as a Student Leader during large-group trips, Philly Destinations and campus activities
  • Serving as a primary contact for Student Leaders should any emergency issue arise
  • Engaging with freshman participants and encouraging thoughtful discussion of social justice issues
  • Developing potential topics for small-group reflection and discussion for Student Leaders
  • Checking in with both Student Leaders and freshman participants throughout entire week, including daily debriefing sessions for Student Leaders
  • Acting as a good representative of SJU in public and refraining from illegal substances
  • Assisting in assessment of PSIP (after week of PSIP)

 

PSIP Student Leader

Student Leaders are responsible for overseeing a group of freshmen for the duration of the week of PSIP.  Primary responsibilities include:

  • Guiding freshmen on SEPTA to and from service each day in a safe and timely manner
  • Planning and facilitating nightly small-group reflection and discussion
  • Acting as a leader during large-group trips, Philly Destinations and campus activities
  • Collaborating with faculty member to arrange a Philly Destination day
  • Sustaining substantive dialogue with freshmen participants and encouraging thoughtful discussion of social justice issues
  • Acting as a good representative of SJU in public and refraining from illegal substances
