www.sju.eduWhat is The SummerHawks Program?
SummerHawks is an academic enhancement program that allows accepted freshmen to earn up to six credits in the University’s General Education Program (GEP) prior to the start of their freshman year. The credit-bearing courses are typically History and English. Students will also take two non-credit courses, one designed to help them brush up on Math skills and another to teach them valuable study skills and college survival strategies.

Along with study halls and co-curricular activities, SummerHawks offers a comprehensive support network of tutoring and Supplemental Instruction to accompany academic courses during an intensive six-week summer program.

Additionally, Students are encouraged to seek guidance and referrals from SummerHawks staff throughout their experience at Saint Joseph’s

How Does SummerHawks Work?
Once accepted to Saint Joseph’s, students elect to participate in the six-week summer program, which runs from late June through early August. Students may choose to take only one credit-bearing course and commute from home. Or students may choose to enroll in both credit-bearing courses and commute from home or live on campus. This experience introduces students to college-level coursework and eases the transition to college life. Students are able to carry a lightened course load in the fall and/or spring semesters and are provided with a variety of services designed to help them reach their goals within the University.

What Support is Available During the Academic Year?

  • Reduced course load during freshman year—perfect for student athletes and those hoping to double major or pursue a minor.
