Options for Disposition of a Complaint

What is the Disciplinary Process?
After a complaint has been filed and notification made, a student or student organization accused of violating the Community Standards may:

1. Accept responsibility for the violation(s) and have a Hearing Officer impose sanction(s);

2. Seek to resolve the complaint through alternative resolution; or

3. Request a hearing to determine if there was a violation of the Community Standards and, if so, the sanctions(s) to be imposed.

If a student or student organization accused of violating the Community Standards requests a hearing, the Senior Community Standards Officer determines who shall hear the case from among the following:

- a Hearing Officer,

- a four or five person panel from the Peer Review Board (PRB), or

- a five person panel from the Community Standards Board (CSB).

In most cases, allegations of less serious violations shall be heard by a Hearing Officer or the Peer Review Board.  In most cases, more serious violations including sexual offenses shall be heard by a Hearing Officer or the Community Standards Board.
