Circulation

Borrowing

Borrowing privileges are extended to all members of the University community and
other User Groups listed below:

Students                                       
-- a valid SJU ID card is required
-- maximum number of books - 20
-- 28 day loan period
-- two week renewal
 
Faculty
-- a valid SJU ID card is required
-- maximum number of books - unlimited
-- one semester loan period
-- one semester renewal
 
Staff
-- a valid SJU ID card is required
-- maximum number of books - 20
-- 28 day loan period
-- two week renewal
 
SJU Alumni
-- register at the Service Desk for an alumni library card
-- Alumni status is verified through the Alumni Office
-- maximum number of books - 10
-- 28 day loan period
-- two week renewal
 
ELS
-- ELS ID required to register at the Service Desk
-- maximum number of books - 5
-- two week loan period
-- one week renewal
 
TCLC Students and Faculty
-- Letter of introduction from the member institution library
and a valid school ID card are required
-- maximum number of books - 5
-- two week loan period
-- one week renewal
 
PALCI Faculty on-site borrowing
-- Letter of introduction from the member institution library
and a valid school ID card are required
-- maximum number of books - 10
-- 28 day loan period

Renewals

Renewal of books prior to or on the due date may be made:

Overdue books must be renewed in person



Fines

  • Overdue fines for books circulating from the stacks -- 15 cents/day
  • Overdue fines for Reserve materials and Audio books -- 50 cents/day
  • Lost book minimum charge -- $55.00/book
Holds

A hold may be placed on an item currently in circulation by:

  • contacting the Circulation staff
  • clicking the "Place a Hold" button within the catalog record when an item is currently "checked out"

Restricted Materials

Reserve items, textbooks, Reference books, periodicals, and materials from the Archives or the Seminar Room are subject to the usage restrictions defined below:

Reserve Materials                                  
-- Books and articles placed on Reserve at the request of faculty members circulate either in-house only or for overnight, one day, or three day loan periods according to the parameters requested by the faculty member
 
Textbooks
-- If the Library collection includes copies of textbooks that are listed as required texts for courses during any given semester, those books will be retrieved from the stacks and kept at the Service Desk for in-house use only during that semester.
 
Reference Books
-- Under ordinary circumstances, Reference books do not circulate. Special requests to borrow Reference materials must be directed to the librarian on duty at the Information Desk.
 
Periodicals
-- Periodicals do not circulate outside the Library. Users with specials requests regarding periodicals should be referred to the Serials Librarian or the Associate Director for Resources Management.
 
Archives and Seminar Room Materials
-- Requests for materials held in the Archives or the Seminar Room should be directed to the Archives & Special Collections Technician. If the Archives Technician is not present, then the Associate Director for Resources Management will handle the request.
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Reserves


Information for Students

Items are held on Reserve at the Service Desk. Please ask for the materials by the faculty person's name. Reserve materials circulate either in-house only or for overnight, one day, or three day loan periods according to the parameters requested by the faculty member.

Go to The Library Catalog to view the list of items on Reserve. You may view them by Professor Name or by Course Title.


Information for Faculty

Instructors or departments may place items on Reserve in the Library, subject to Fair Use and copyright restrictions.

  • Items may include photocopies of journal articles and book chapters, homework solutions, sample exams, videotapes, textbooks, personal books, library books, CDs, software, or other items.
  • Borrowing periods for materials are: Room Reserve (In-Library only), Overnight, 3-day, and 7-day.

To arrange for materials to be placed on Reserve fill out the necessary Reserve Request form and deliver it to Martha VanAuken at the Service Desk in one of 3 ways:

  • Open the form (a Word Document), fill in the form electronically, save it, and send it as an email attachment to Martha (vanauken@sju.edu)
  • Open the form (a Word Document) and print it out as a paper copy. Fill in the form and deliver it in person or send it via campus mail to Martha
  • Contact Martha at the Service Desk (610-660-1900) and she will fill in the form for you.

 

When materials are available electronically, instructors may contact Linda Kubala, Web Resources/Reference Librarian, (610-660-1531) to arrange for secure posting of links to the materials on the Web.

If the Library does not own items needed for Reserve, please contact Marjorie Rathbone, Associate Director for Resources Management (610-660-1912).
