The University owns THOUSANDS of journals -- that is the good news! The
bad news is that it can sometimes be confusing trying to locate a specific
journal issue, because the University receives journals for varying date
ranges and in several different formats:
Some journals are available only in hard copy format- -the
current year's volume is usually available in single issues and older
volumes are often bound and put in the stacks or are available on microfilm
or microfiche.
Some journals are available only in electronic format. -- This
usually means that the journal is contained in and accessible from
one or more of our e-Resources (ex. Academic Search Premier, PA Research
II, LexisNexis Academic etc.)
Some journals are available in both hard copy format and in electronic
format. -- So you may often (but not always---again because of
date range coverage) be able to choose the format that you prefer.
The best news of all is that in ALL cases the catalog
record in The Library Catalog will specify the format(s) and location(s) where the
full text of the journal can be retrieved.
Now for the details...
For this example we will be working with a citation found in a search
of the PA Research II database using the keywords "canterbury
tales":
"Species, Phantasms, and Images: Vision and Medieval Psychology
in "The Canterbury Tales"; Warren Ginsberg; Speculum, Cambridge;
Jan 2003; Vol. 78, Iss. 1; pg. 149 "
The journal title in this citation is Speculum.
