What is NetLibrary®?
The Francis A. Drexel Library offers access to NetLibrary®, a collection of thousands of electronic books (eBooks) covering a wide variety of subject areas and organized in two collections:
  •  Library Collection - We are sharing the purchase of access rights to approximately 1,900 titles under current copyright, with PALCI, a Pennsylvania academic library consortium. These titles have been selected from NetLibrary®'s complete current-copyright eBook collection.
  •  Public Collection - Nearly 4,000 public domain classics that are copyright free and available to anyone.

NetLibrary®'s eBooks are identical in format and content to corresponding print versions and all ~1,820 current-copyright titles have been cataloged and appear in The Library Catalog. To see a list of cataloged NetLibrary® titles, search The Library Catalog using the search term "NetLibrary" in a "Title" search (show me).

NetLibrary® eBooks are full-text, fully searchable, and are accessible from any web browser, 24 hours a day, seven days a week!. An individual account (unrelated to other Library/University accounts) is required to view a Library Collection title. You do not need an account to view a Public Collection title.

Terms of access and method of access are listed below; online help is available from NetLibrary® as well. If you still have questions after having read the instructions, please contact an SJU Reference Librarian.

NetLibrary® is an exciting, evolving product. We'd love to have your feedback!

Who may use it? NetLibrary® is available to all Saint Joseph's University faculty, staff and administration, and all students currently enrolled at SJU.
System requirements For online viewing of eBooks in your browser:
Version 6.x of Internet Explorer;
'JavaScript' and 'Cookies' must be enabled.

How do I create an account? To use NetLibrary® you must first set up an account.  This initial contact with NetLibrary® must be made from an IP-recognized location. This means that you must be at a networked computer on the SJU campus, OR you must be accessing NetLibrary® through the SJU Proxy Server from an off-campus location.

Note that this individual NetLibrary® account is totally unrelated to any Library/University account; for this reason we will not be able to reassign or restore lost/forgotten passwords.  Please make a note of your Username/Password for your records.

Once the account is set up, you may access NetLibrary® from home or any other remote location, with no special proxy server set-up--your individual account information will allow access.

To create an account:

  • Go to NetLibrary
  • At the top right of the screen, choose "Create a Free Account"
  • Fill out the account information (Fields with a red asterisk are Required)
  • Click on "Create Account"
  • Read the Terms of Use Agreement  and Click "Accept"
  • You may be asked to create a different username if your username is already in use
  • You will receive and "Account Creation Successful" message, which means that your account has been created
  • You may use your account immediately, and within a few days you will receive an email welcome from NetLibrary® confirming your username.

(More help from NetLibrary®)

May I save or print an entire eBook ?   NetLibrary® abides by copyright rulings and prevents users from saving or printing entire eBooks.  Users attempting to do so will first receive a warning, and then will lose access to the site.
May I save or print selected pages?  Users may print or copy a single page at a time for a reasonable number of pages before NetLibrary® sends a warning.
