The Affirmative Action and Diversity Project : A Web Page for Research - Presents diverse opinions regarding affirmative action topics ; rather than taking a singular pro or con position, it is designed to help lend different voices to the debates surrounding the issues of affirmative action. This site is an academic resource and it provides scholars, students, and the interested public with on-site articles and theoretical analyses, policy documents, current legislative updates, and an annotated bibliography of research and teaching materials. [Reviewed] Alliance for Equity in Higher Education - Promotes collaboration and cooperation among colleges and universities that serve large numbers of students of color in order to enhance the nation’s economic competitiveness, social stability, and cultural richness. American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC) - Founded to maintain standards of quality in American Indian education, support the development of new tribally controlled colleges, promote and assist in the development of legislation to support American Indian higher education, and encourage greater participation by American Indians in the development of higher education policy. American Program Bureau - As the leading source for diversity programming since its inception, APB continues to possess the largest and most diverse multicultural roster in the industry. As the first agency to give a voice to Martin Luther King, Jr., Russell Means, Dick Gregory, and others when they were denied a platform for their outspoken ideas, APB continues its tradition ; speaker list may be searched by topic or by name. Asian American Studies Center - A department of UCLA, the Center aims to enrich the experience of the entire university by contributing to an understanding of the history, cultural heritage, and present position of Asian Americans in society ; includes publications, statistics, and curricular resources ASPIRA : an Investment in Latino Youth - The ASPIRA Association, Inc. is the only national nonprofit organization devoted solely to the education and leadership development of Puerto Rican and other Latino youth ; provides students with the personal resources they need to remain in school and contribute to their community. Association for Higher Education and Disability - International, multicultural organization of professionals committed to full participation in higher education for persons with disabilities. The Association promotes excellence through education, communication and training. The Black Collegian Online - Electronic version of the 29 year old, national career opportunities magazine. In addition to the abundance of career planning/job search information, there is commentary by leading African-American writers, lifestyle/ entertainment features, general information on college life, and news of what's happening on college campuses today. Black Excel - Since its founding in 1988, Black Excel has helped young people and their parents to navigate the college admission process and to provide financial aid and scholarship resources The Compelling Need for Diversity in Higher Education - In the controversial 1996 case of Hopwood v. State of Texas, the Fifth Circuit defied the Supreme Court's opinion in Bakke v. Regents of the University of California, by ruling that institutions of higher education do not have a "compelling interest" in enrolling a racially diverse student body. The University of Michigan brought together a team of leading scholars to serve as its experts in order to establish the basis for the Michigan's argument that there is a compelling need for diversity in higher education. Their research is evidence that the use of race in higher education admissions is not only constitutional, but of vital importance to education and to our society. Diversity & Affirmative Action in Higher Education - Designed by the American Association of University Professors, provides documents describing the Association’s policies and ongoing work on these issues and other pertinent information regarding diversity and affirmative action in higher education Diversity Database - The University of Maryland's Diversity Database is designed by the Office of Human Relations Programs to promote campus-wide diversity at Maryland. This database contains campus, local, national, and international academic material relating to the following areas of diversity as defined by the Office of Human Relations Programs at the University of Maryland: age, class, disability, ethnicity, gender, national origin, race, religion & sexual orientation. The recommended resources include syllabi, models for faculty development and other materials to help campus practitioners create an environment where diversity is considered part of an on-going commitment to excellence. The New York Times on the Web (June 4, 2000-) - Electronic version of the New York Times series seeking to capture some of the issues Americans face. The Institute for Higher Education Policy - Non-profit, non-partisan organization whose mission is to foster access to and quality in postsecondary education. The Institute's activities are designed to promote innovative solutions to the important and complex issues facing higher education, including responding to social and economic change. National Consortium of Directors of LGBT Resources in Higher Education - The vision and mission on the Consortium is to achieve higher education environments in which lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students, faculty, staff, administrators, and alumni have equity in every respect. The Consortium's goals are to support colleagues and develop curriculum to professionally enhance this work; to seek climate improvement on campuses; and to advocate for policy change, program development, and establishment of LGBT Office/Centers. National Survey on Diversity in the Undergraduate Curriculum -Association of American Colleges and Universities National TRIO Clearinghouse - The National TRIO Clearinghouse is an Adjunct ERIC Clearinghouse on Educational Opportunity affiliated with the ERIC Clearinghouse on Higher Education (ERIC-HE). The Clearinghouse collects and disseminates information, applied program materials, resources, and research related to TRIO programs and TRIO students. They focus on issues of educational opportunity and access to higher education for low-income, first generation participants and students with disabilities. Services include reference and referrals; publications and bibliographies; presentations; and symposia. Office of Indian Education - Part of the United States Department of Education, the mission of the Office of Indian Education is to support the efforts of local educational agencies, Indian tribes and organizations, postsecondary institutions, and other entities to meet the unique educational and culturally related academic needs of American Indians and Alaska Natives so that these students can achieve to the same performance standards as all students. President's Task Force on Racial Diversity, Saint Joseph's University - Working over the summer, 2000, the Task Force conducted an assessment of the campus climate by surveying and interviewing a broad cross-section of the campus community. The Task Force sought information from students, staff, and faculty with regard to their views and perceptions on the question of racial diversity at Saint Joseph's. The website provides summary results and information on the work of the Task Force. Race, Gender, and Affirmative Action : Resource Page for Teaching - Annotated bibliography of resources on race, gender, and affirmative action intended for the use of faculty who are designing courses concerning race, gender, and affirmative action, and for students and browsers interested in a guide to University Diversity Commission - The mission of the Diversity Commission is to educate the SJU community and foster a more welcoming and inclusive campus environment. Its charge is to analyze diversity-related issues, develop plans, and assist in implementing strategies. The website includes background information on the commission, diversity resources, grant opportunities, the Diversity newsletter, calendars of SJU events related to the various diversity initiatives on campus, and the findings of the 2000 President's Task Force on Racial Diversity.
