About Islam and Muslims
The aim of this page is to provide accurate information about Islamic beliefs, history, and civilization for Muslims and Non-Muslims. Hosted by Northumbria Online at University of Northumbria at Newcastle.

Al-Islam.org
A work of the Ahlul Bayt Digital Islamic Library Project (DILP), which is a non profit Internet-based group of people operating from throughout the world. Objectives are to digitize and present on the Internet quality Islamic resources, related to the history, law, practice, and society of the Islamic religion and the Muslim peoples. Links on the site include Beginner's Introduction, with an Islamic FAQ page, About Islam, Allah and the Holy Qur'an, Muhammad, Beliefs and Practices, and History & Current Events. Upon entering the site, a pop-up contains a statement on the Condemnation of Terrorism and links to a fuller "CATEGORICAL AND UNEQUIVOCAL CONDEMNATION OF CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY" and to statements by other individuals and groups. Comparative Religion
A Directory of Internet Resources for the Academic Study of Religion.  This metasite, created by Mike Madin of the University of Washington, is a well-organized and useful collection of resources for religious studies. Links are organized into six sections: General Directories and Pages, Women and Religion, Art and Religion, Eastern Religions, Western Religions, and Religion in the Americas. Subsections include Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Judaism, Christianity, and Native American Religions. Users can locate a variety of resources: bibliographies, documents, texts, reference tools, directories, and online publications. [Reviewed]

PBS presents this website as a companion to its forthcoming television program.  Islam: Empire of Faith aims to take a broad view of the many facets of ancient Islamic art and culture. The main sections of this site are Faith, Art, Innovation, and Profiles.  With RealPlayer loaded (Download free version), the user can view video clips of notable sites such as the Great Mosque in Damascus and the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem.

This introductory course on Islam and Islamic views on contemporary issues includes comparative religious studies and sections on Islam & Terrorism and Prominent Muslims.

Online since late 1996, this website is " voluntary and independent of any organization, society or government, and is dedicated to sharing sound Islamic information related to issues of vital interest to Muslims. Islaam.Com seeks... to provide original, frequently-updated material in a way that will...inspire us all to seek nobility and honor with Islaam." The resource center of this mostly non-partisan cyber-portal to Islamic resources on the WWW offers quick access to sites concerned with art, history and science, Muhammad, Qur'an, tradition, and interfaith relations.

The Koran 
An electronically scanned version of M. H. Shakir's translation of the Holy Qur'an, as published by Tahrike Tarsile.
The edition was originally from the Online Book Initiative and is presented here in a searchable SGML form by the University of Virginia.

The Middle East Institute
Founded in 1946 on the premise that the Middle East would become a key region for the United States. It offers publications, language courses, events, media resources, etc. The Institute's Library is searchable online and it offers selected full-text issues of The Middle East JournalIt also provides links to Middle East-related websites. 

An Introduction to Islam - Online version of M. Cherif Bassiouni's book offers an interesting and useful introduction to the history and culture of Islam for non-Muslim readers, including numerous photos, maps, and charts. Provided by the Middle East Institute's George Camp Keiser Library.

    Muslim Peace Fellowship
    A site on the Nonviolence Web maintained by " peace and justice-oriented Muslims of all backgrounds who are dedicated to making the beauty of Islam evident in the world."  Information about the National Campaign to End Iraqi Sanctions and the Bosnian Student Project.

    Muslim Student Association - MSA

    Provided as a service of MSA @ University at Buffalo and Wings, this site attempts to provide a 'springboard' for exploring texts and resources on Islam and Islamic thought, ideas, and related issues. Sections include Introductory texts, Scriptures & Prophetic Traditions, incl. the Qu'ran and the Hadith, Islamic Thought, and Islamic Language and Art Resources.  Links to other Islamic and Muslim sites.

    The Nation of Islam Online
    General information, resources and statements from the Nation of Islam. Includes Louis Farrakhan's (9/16/01) response to the Attack on America.

    Online section about  ISLAM  from Paul Flesher's Exploring Religions covers Islamic cosmology, organization, religious life, worship, sacred literature, with a glossary, timeline & maps.

    Ontario Consultants on Religious Tolerance
    This site is a little distracting because one has to sort through the plethora of ads, many of them flashing, that allow the creators to fund it, but it is a unique and interesting one.  It is maintained by four individuals of diverse beliefs whose purposes are: disseminating accurate religious information, exposing religious fraud, hatred and misinformation, and disseminating information on "hot" religious topics. It contains essays on a variety of religions and ethical systems, including Islam, and a main essay on the terrorist attack on NYC and Washington which includes articles about the backlash on innocent Muslims and other unique perspectives.

    Resources for Studying Islam and the Diverse Perspectives of Muslims
    Academic website of Dr. Alan Godlas, professor of Religion at the University of Georgia offers a comprehensive guide to the Islamic world & a gateway to related resources on the internet.  It presents well-annotated pages on the Quran & Muhammad, standards of faith & practice, Sufism, & the role of women.  The site provides a scholarly overview of Islam and related subjects and now includes a  special section  U.S. Muslims Condem Terrorist Attacks .  Some of the articles included in this current section are: Scholars of Islam Speak Out Against Terrorism; Experts Say Ben Ladin Distorting Islamic Law; and Scholars Assert that the Qur'an is a Book of Peace.     Site devleoped by USC Muslim Student Association.  Sets forth the  fundamentals of Islam, including traditional biographical materials and modern assessments of the Prophet Muhammad, and translations of the Qu'ran.  Special topics include  a brief chronology of Muslin history and Women in Islam.  Includes a glossary and links to other sites and a page titled "Abusing the Word 'Islam'".
