Teacher Intern Certification Program
The teacher intern program at Saint Joseph’s is designed specifically for students who majored in a content area other than education in their undergraduate degree and aspire to become a certified teacher.
Upon admission to the program, successful completion of the required PRAXIS examinations and completion of any needed course work, students will be eligible for intern certification, a three-year provisional certificate.
The program allows candidates who possess a bachelor’s degree in a related area to seek employment in a Pennsylvania school while simultaneously completing requirements for PA Instructional I teacher certification. Students may also pursue a career that allows them to apply previous study of content-area from an undergraduate major toward an education credential, making this an attractive program for those changing careers.
Areas leading to certification include:
- Early Childhood/Elementary Education (PreK-4)
- Elementary/Middle Education (4-8)
- Secondary Education (7-12)
- Sciences: General Science, Chemistry, Biology, Physics
- Foreign Languages (K to 12): French, Latin, German, Spanish, Italian
- Mathematics
- Citizenship Education
- English
