"China, Japan, India and other countries of Asia have histories and cultures that are incredibly rich and diverse. As Americans, we tend to be myopic -- we don't know enough about the other side of the world. It's a big planet, but many of our students don't have a sense of the world beyond our country's Euro-centric roots. By contrast, many Asians know Western, and specifically American culture very well – which includes the ability to speak English, and they are hungry. They want to grow and succeed, and they understand that possessing a more global cultural literacy is critical to achieving their goals. The Asian Studies Program aims to insure that our graduates understand this as well, and are well prepared for what many have predicted will be the 'Asian century'."
