Saint Joseph's University is a Catholic and Jesuit university that instills in each member of its academic community: a love of learning and of the highest intellectual and professional achievement; moral discernment reflecting Christian values; and a transforming commitment to social justice. Therefore the University strives to provide continuous opportunities for all who share in the mission of Saint Joseph’s to develop their professional and personal skills as important agents of creating this comprehensive academic community.
We believe that every experience can become a learning opportunity. By providing mission reflection experiences Saint Joseph’s University aims to strengthen the Catholic and Jesuit identity while promoting diversity throughout the academic community. This includes the regular provision of opportunities for all who share in the mission to reflect on and integrate the insights gained in day-to-day work, and to provide new experiences that will enhance our ability to support the learning of our students and the greater public service of the University.
Our aim is to enhance the experience of the members of the entire academic community both as individuals, team members, and to seek the Ignatian ideal of the magis in their particular area of work.
Before considering participating in a mission reflection experience, please carefully read the University Policy for Participation in Mission Reflection Experiences.
Purposes of Mission Reflection Activities:
1) Mission reflection at Saint Joseph’s University is intended to contribute to increasing the effectiveness of the organization, particularly in raising student achievement by:
- Developing and improving an understanding of Plan 2010, the mission of the University, the Catholic heritage and the Ignatian values and ways of proceeding.
- Developing and improving the support given to students and colleagues. Fostering the Ignatian value of cura personalis is a key part of this purpose.
- Developing and improving the systems and approaches used at the University with regards to how they may integrate an Ignatian way of proceeding and values crucial to Jesuit education.
- Developing and improving the integration of inter-departmental collaboration and community formation for the whole University.
- Increasing job satisfaction by encouraging and assisting self-development.
- Fostering the personal achievement with a deeper sense of the mission of the University and greater focus on how to realize it in their particular work.
- Improving individual and team effort with regards to the mission of the University.
