Accomplished Finance Professor Assumes Insurance Chair

PHILADELPHIA (Dec. 8, 2011) – Jean Heck, Ph.D., an internationally recognized expert in financial education, has assumed the Brian C. Duperreault ’69 Chair for Risk Management and Insurance at Saint Joseph’s University.
Heck, who arrived at Saint Joseph’s in 2007 as a professor of finance, brings 30 years of academic experience to the role. “Jean is a reference point for his students as well as his peers around the globe,” says Joseph A. DiAngelo Jr., Ed.D. ’70, dean of the University’s Haub School of Business. “He has made a career out of providing others with information about research activity in the field of finance.”
Established in 2004, the Brian C. Duperreault ’69 Chair for Risk Management and Insurance was endowed by the ACE Group of Companies to honor former Chairman and CEO Brian Duperreault. The position is open to accomplished executives in the field who support academic learning with industry experience.
“I am extraordinarily proud of this appointment and am excited about the opportunity to help grow SJU’s risk management and insurance program,” says Heck. “I look forward to developing many new risk management and insurance courses, actively engaging with our students and strengthening the program’s ties with industry.”
Heck is the founding president of the Academy of Business Education and the Financial Education Association. He is the executive editor of the Journal of Financial Education and Advances in Financial Education, managing editor of the Journal of the Academy of Business Education, and associate editor of Financial Services Review. Heck has authored over 50 articles in academic journals and has published four books on financial management.
