  • Alumnus, Former Trustees to be Honored at SJU Commencement

    Saint Joseph's University is pleased to announce that it will recognize Brian '69 and Nancy Duperreault, Charles Kahn, Jr. and James Nevels with honorary degrees at the Class of 2008 commencement exercises. Mr. Duperreault will deliver an address during the undergraduate ceremony and Nevels at the graduate exercise. Commencement weekend will be held this year on Friday and Saturday, May 9-10. The graduate ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, and the undergraduate ceremony at 3 p.m.

  • Students Connect with Disabled Neighbors

    On Saturday, April 5, Saint Joseph's legendary Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse will be transformed into a carnival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., as University volunteers host community members with disabilities in the 32nd annual Hand-in-Hand festival.

Cone, Ph.D., founder of Black Liberation Theology, will present a lecture titled "Wrestling with the Cries of the Oppressed"at Saint Joseph's University on Fri., April 4, from 4 – 6 p.m. in the Presidents' Lounge of Campion Student Center. The event commemorates the 40th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

  • Winning Paper Examines Honda's Troubled Ethics

    Three students from the Haub School of Business were recently awarded first prize in the annual Graduate Ethics Paper Competition, sponsored by The Pedro Arrupe Center for Business Ethics

    Bledar Qato, Mark Bidoli and Ayse Kalic were awarded $2,000 for their paper, "Honda and the United Auto Workers Clash over New Factory Jobs."

  • Congressmen Present Funds for Science Center Renovations

    U.S. Congressmen Robert A. Brady (D-Pa.) and Jim Gerlach (R-Pa.) visited campus last week and presented a check for $800,000 from the U.S. Dept. of Energy to Saint Joseph's President Timothy R. Lannon, S.J., that will help fund the purchase of energy-efficient HVAC equipment and roofing for the University's Science Center.

    It's not often that English professors get to play detective, but to piece together an accurate picture of American novelist Herman Melville (1819-1891), scholars have had to do just that. Peter Norberg, Ph.D., associate professor of English, recently won a $35,795 National Endowment for the Humanities fellowship that will allow him to continue his research into the work and life of Melville, and publish his findings in the electronic archive Melville's Marginalia Online.
