    PHILADELPHIA (Nov. 29, 2012) — While most of the blame for childhood obesity is placed on the marketing practices of food manufacturers, research by Nancy Childs, Ph.D., professor of food marketing at Saint Joseph’s University, suggests that more attention should be given to the in-store marketing activities of food retailers, especially those that directly target children.

  • Is There Any Honor Left in Honor Codes?

    PHILADELPHIA (Nov. 28, 2012) — In light of the Harvard cheating scandal, in which 125 students improperly collaborated on a take-home examination last spring, the debate on the effectiveness of honor codes has taken the media by storm. The general consensus seems to be that unless a code is embedded in the right culture — one that is student-led and student-enforced — the code is useless. Many wonder if there is a way to foster such a culture.

  • SJU Hawks Attempt to “Flap” Their Way into Record Book

    PHILADELPHIA (Nov. 13, 2012) - Celebrating National Philanthropy Day and Guinness World Records Day, the Saint Joseph's Hawk will lead up to 1,000 SJU students, faculty, staff and alumni in an attempt to set a world record for the longest simultaneous "group flap." Rally-goers will flap continuously for at least five minutes to show gratitude to supporters of a new scholarship initiative at the University during a rally dubbed "Flapitude 2012."

Hagan ’85 with its highest honor, the Shield of Loyola Award, at the 32nd Annual Alumni Gala on Friday, Nov. 2 at the Hyatt at the Bellevue in Philadelphia. Recognized as Forbes magazine’s "Entrepreneur of the Year" in 2006, Hagan is currently President and CEO of LifeShield, Inc.

  • Special Education Program Receives Autism Endorsement

    PHILADELPHIA (Nov. 2, 2012) — The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) has granted Saint Joseph’s University’s special education program the Autism Spectrum Disorders Endorsement for a four-course, 12-credit specialization. Saint Joseph’s University is one of nine select universities that have received this Endorsement from the PDE.
