U.S. Congressmen Robert A. Brady (D-Pa.) and Jim Gerlach (R-Pa.) visited campus last week and presented a check for $800,000 from the U.S. Dept. of Energy to Saint Joseph's President Timothy R. Lannon, S.J., that will help fund the purchase of energy-efficient HVAC equipment and roofing for the University's Science Center.
Brady and Gerlach were instrumental in securing the funding for Saint Joseph's Science Center, home to the University's academic programs in chemistry, biology and physics and designed to promote advanced and interdisciplinary learning and research for undergraduate and graduate students.
"Saint Joseph's University has a proud tradition of providing a superb education to tomorrow's doctors and scientists," said Gerlach. "This funding will allow them to continue their great work at the Science Center, and ensure that they have the necessary facilities and resources to help today's students become tomorrow's leaders."
In accepting the check, Fr. Lannon said, "This grant will allow us to maximize the valuable space in this building for teaching and research. We are grateful to Congressman Brady and Congressman Gerlach for their efforts in securing the financial support for this very important initiative. They have been champions for the people of Pennsylvania and Saint Joseph's University."
