Ground Breaking for New Residence Hall

Who: Saint Joseph’s University will break ground on a new, 413-bed freshmen residence hall at the corner of Cardinal and City Aves. University-city based Campus Apartments is the developer and project manager of the new construction.
What: Slated for completion by the Fall 2012 semester, the residence hall will provide an attractive housing option for first-year students. The mid-rise building will feature a tower element visible from City Avenue and include generous living, social and study spaces. Saint Joseph’s University is committed to a level of local and minority participation with this project.
When: Monday, May 9, Ground Breaking Ceremony 2-3 p.m.
Where: Gest Lawn, City Avenue and Cardinal Avenue, Philadelphia
Highlight: Wearing hard hats and wielding shovels, current Saint Joseph’s University President Timothy R. Lannon, S.J., Senior Vice President and future Interim President John Smithson ’68, MBA ’82, along with Daniel Bernstein, executive vice president and chief investment officer of Campus Apartments, will break ground on the new dormitory.
Why: “It was important to us that this new building include the appropriate amenities for our students, while enhancing the aesthetic of our campus,” says Kevin Robinson, vice president of administrative services.
“We relish the opportunity to work on such an impactful project in our own backyard,” says Bernstein.
