Friends and family host a 5K run/walk to raise domestic violence awareness
What: Kristin's Krusade - a 5K Run/Walk for Domestic Violence Awareness
The run is in memory of Kristin Mitchell, a 2005 alumna of Saint Joseph's University who was murdered by her boyfriend weeks after graduation from the University. The purpose of the event is to raise awareness of domestic violence and "hopefully start a domino effect in other communities," according to the Kristin's Krusade Web site.
When: Sunday, September 30th 8 a.m. – Registration 9:30 a.m. – Race begins
Where: Saint Joseph's University Finnesey Field Philadelphia, Pa. 19131
Who: The event is sponsored by the charity established by the friends and family of Mitchell with additional support from Saint Joseph's University, Best Residential Inspections, Philadelphia Runner, Victory Beverage and General Mills. Highlight: Approximately 200 participants will run/walk on a course which begins on the University track and loops around campus. A post-race raffle will feature autographed items from the Philadelphia Flyers and Eagles, including an authentic Donovan McNabb jersey. Additional raffle items include tickets to a Philadelphia Soul game, select Saint Joseph's men's and women’s basketball games, gift certificates, and gift baskets from a variety of vendors. There will also be literature from a number of domestic abuse organizations made available at the event.
