SJU Adds Computer Gaming and Animation Program

Thursday, August 12, 2010

PHILADELPHIA (August 12, 2010) – For some at Saint Joseph’s University, video games are more than simply entertainment – they are part of a multi-billion dollar industry and an in-demand area of study. This fall, SJU’s College of Professional and Liberal Studies (PLS) will offer a new six-course certificate program in Gaming and Animation.  The coursework will also serve as a new concentration for students currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Professional and Liberal Studies as well as possible electives for traditional undergraduates.

The new program will focus on 3D animation, storyline composition and technical skill development.  Students will not only learn about the basics of computer science, but will also receive training in computer graphic design, model creation and animation.

“We aim to prepare each student with applicable skills to succeed in dynamic and emerging industries,” said Judith Gallagher, M.Ed., associate dean of PLS.  “Our continued commitment to providing relevant coursework and flexibility in scheduling makes our Gaming and Animation program accessible to even the busiest of students looking to advance their career in this developing area.”

The registration deadline for the fall semester is August 27. For more information about the Gaming and Animation offerings, contact the College of Professional and Liberal Studies at pls@sju.edu or 877-NITE-SJU.
