What: Saint Joseph’s University will pick up the ‘green’ gauntlet and encourage sustainable lifestyle practices throughout the week to observe the 40th anniversary of Earth Day.

Highlights: SJU students, faculty and staff will join with school children from Samuel Gompers Elementary School and the Overbrook Civic Association to plant flowers and trees; participate in the panel discussion “Creating a Greener World: Learning from Philadelphia High School Students”; dive into dumpsters to retrieve recyclable items; learn about sustainable transportation; donate old sneakers to be recycled into athletic surfaces. Who: Events are sponsored by two student organizations—G.R.E.E.N. C.O.W. (Get Ready for Environmental Education Now Conserve Our Wildlife) and the SJU Sustainability Club—and the recycling and travel working groups of the University Sustainability Committee.
