SJU to Host College and University Homeland Security Summit

What: Saint Joseph’s University’s Early Responders Distance Learning Center (ERDLC), in conjunction with the University’s Criminal Justice and Public Safety Institute, the FBI and the Southeastern Pennsylvania Regional Task Force (SEPARTF) will host a summit for college and university presidents, administrators and security directors from eastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey to increase their understanding of, and improve their relationships with the Department of Justice (DOJ), Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and SEPARTF programs.
When: Wednesday, May 19 Opening remarks 9 -10:30 a.m.
Where: Wolfington Teletorium, Mandeville Hall 54th Street and City Avenue Philadelphia, Pa. 19131
Who: The opening portion of the summit is open to the media and will feature remarks from high-ranking officials including Special Agent Joseph Metzinger of the FBI; Director of the Department of Homeland Security’s Academy/Academic & Interagency Office Cheryl Seminara; and the Deputy Mayor of the City of Philadelphia Everett Gillison; and Delaware County District Attorney G. Michael Green.
Purpose: The summit will provide opportunities for participants to:
- Discuss the role and responsibility of the FBI Philadelphia Field Office for supporting and protecting schools and their students.
- Discuss the threats posed by specific criminal activities and the FBI programs responsible for mitigating those risks (domestic and international threats).
- Provide opportunities for college and university security professionals to interact with their peers and Federal Officers to establish and improve communication pathways.
- Provide an opportunity for attendees to discuss challenges facing their schools and provide a forum for attendees to identify unmet needs in Homeland Security.
- Provide a training model for responding to an active shooter.
