SJU Hosts 11th Annual “Take Back the Night” Vigil

What: Saint Joseph’s University will host the 11th annual Take Back the Night Vigil, a powerful event to raise public awareness of sexual assault and violence in our communities. The event is sponsored by the Rape Education and Prevention Program (REPP), the Counseling Center, the Offices of Residence and Multicultural Life and the Departments of Athletics and Sociology.
When: Tues., April 12 Keynote Address by Byron Hurt, 11:30 a.m. Candlelight Vigil, 7 p.m.

Who: Byron Hurt, an award-winning documentary filmmaker, anti-sexism activist, founding member of Mentors in Violence Prevention and former quarterback at Northeastern University will give his address, “Beyond Beats and Rhymes,” discussing sexism, racism and violence in the media at 11:30 a.m.
Highlights: The vigil ends each year with a speak-out, which opens the floor to anyone who wishes to talk about their experience with sexual assault or physical abuse.
The media is prohibited from filming the speak-out portion of the vigil due to the sensitive content.
