• SJU to Hold “College Ready Workshop” for High School Students

    PHILADELPHIA (October 18, 2013) – For area high school juniors and seniors and their families, Saint Joseph’s University will host the SJU College Ready Workshop on Saturday, October 26, from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m., at the Cardinal Foley Student Center on Saint Joseph’s Maguire Campus.

To help illuminate this important international relationship, Saint Joseph’s University will partner with the National Committee on United States-China Relations of New York to present the seventh annual CHINA Town Hall: Local Connections, National Reflections, on Monday, Oct. 28.

  • University Mourns Loss of Terrence Toland, S.J., 23rd President

    Rev. Terrence Toland, S.J., the 23rd president of Saint Joseph's University, was called to eternal life on October 18, 2013.  Fr. Toland passed away at Manresa Hall in Merion Station, Pa. He was 90 years old, a Jesuit for 74 years and a priest for 61 years.

    PHILADELPHIA (Oct. 17, 2013) — Matthew Christopher says he set out to chronicle the ruins of the American architectural scene by photographing abandoned churches, schools, theaters, hospitals, prisons, and resorts, because “the empty buildings offer a mute testimonial to our country’s past.” An exhibit of digital photographs from his journey into that past, “The Age of Consequences,” will be on display in the Saint Joseph’s University Gallery Nov. 15-Dec. 10.

    The work of Deborah Zlotsky, featured in a show titled “Or something like it,” is currently exhibited in the Saint Joseph’s University Gallery on the second floor of Merion Hall. The collection of contemporary, abstract art, numbering nine drawings and seven paintings, will be on view now until Oct. 31.

    PHILADELPHIA (October 4, 2013) —Bestselling author Wally Lamb will read from his new novel, We Are Water, Thursday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m., in the Wolfington Teletorium in Mandeville Hall. A book signing and reception will follow the reading. We Are Water is set to release on Oct. 22 from HarperCollins Publishers. This free event, hosted by the English department’s Writing Series 2013-14, marks Lamb’s only stop in Philadelphia for his national book tour.

    Sustainability Committee Helps Create A Greener SJU

    Walking through campus this fall, you may notice a few subtle changes to the landscape: fewer dumpsters near the dining halls, fewer trashcans in the classrooms, and four newly-installed educational signs posted near each of SJU’s green walls and vegetative roofs. In April, the University welcomed the opening of the SJU Community Garden, a greenspace between Connelly and Paris Halls dedicated to teaching the SJU community about horticulture and the environment through actively maintained garden plots.
