<p>PHILADELPHIA (April 25, 2012)­ - Saint Joseph's University's Haub School of Business' (HSB) collegiate chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) has been selected as the Gold Chapter Award winner for 2012. The student chapter competed against 504 collegiate chapters around the globe. Beta Gamma Sigma will present Saint Joseph's with this prestigious award at its annual conference in San Diego, Calif. on April 29.</p>

<p>PHILADELPHIA (April 23, 2012) – In the last several months, national attention has been called to the impact of senseless violence on communities through the ongoing Trayvon Martin case unfolding in Sanford, Fla. In Philadelphia, 324 victims lost their lives to homicide in 2011 – an increase from 2010’s 306. On Thursday, April 26, Saint Joseph’s University students and members of the community will remember these victims at their sixth annual Candlelight Vigil, held in the Chapel of St. Joseph-Michael J. Smith, S.J., Memorial at 7 p.m.</p>

<p>PHILADELPHIA (April 18, 2012) – Every day, many college students take for granted the fact that their water is clean, regulated and available. For more than a billion of the Earth's inhabitants, however, there is no guarantee of access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation. Saint Joseph's students have initiated a week of programming to bring attention to this important global issue. Water Awareness Week 2012 will take place on Saint Joseph's campus from April 16 – 20 and will offer college students practical steps they can take to influence change around this issue.</p>

<p>APRIL 11, 2012 (PHILADELPHIA) – “Eleven on the Thirteenth,” the 2012 Saint Joseph’s University Senior Art Thesis Exhibition, will open on Friday, April 13, marking the 13th year of the annual showcase. Held in the new gallery on the second floor of Merion Hall on the James J. Maguire ’58 Campus, this year’s exhibition features the collected works of 11 student-artists working with pastels, ceramics, painting and photography. The show runs through May 31, with an opening reception scheduled for Friday, April 13, from 5 – 9 p.m.</p>

<p>PHILADELPHIA (April 3, 2012) – The Saint Joseph’s University Chapter of Sigma Xi, the scientific research society, is hosting the 23rd annual student research symposium on Friday, April 13. Gordon M. Burghardt, Ph.D., professor of psychology, ecology and evolutionary biology at the University of Tennessee, will join the SJU community as keynote speaker and recipient of this year’s Christopher Clavius, S.J. Award, an honor that recognizes inspirational and groundbreaking scientists and researchers.<br />
In his presentation titled “The Origins and Biology of Play,” Burghardt will discuss his work on the controversial and oft-overlooked subject of play behavior among vertebrate species.</p>

<p>PHILADELPHIA (April 4, 2012) - Chief actuary & risk officer of Endurance Specialty Holdings Ltd. Michael E. Angelina will assume the role of executive director of the Academy of Risk Management and Insurance at Saint Joseph's University on April 1. Angelina is an accomplished executive with more than 25 years of experience in the field.</p>
