What: A Saint Joseph’s University student organization will host a carnival for community members with special needs. Over 500 University volunteers and guests will participate in the 33rd annual Hand-in-Hand event.
When: Saturday, April 4
10 a.m – 2 p.m.
Where: Saint Joseph’s University
Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse
54th and City Ave, Philadelphia, Pa., 19131
Highlights: Each guest is treated to a special day of fun and memories. Hundreds of students and visitors will enjoy a performance from a live band and DJ. Games, face painting and a photo booth are just a few of the day’s attractions. Guests will also enjoy a barbeque and a visit from Mister Softee.
Who: "Hand-in-Hand provides the opportunity for the majority of the student body to come together and support a community outside of our University,” says senior Elizabeth White, a member of the organization. “It’s a rare event that often puts our lives back into perspective and helps us regain focus on some of the more important values of life."
The personal mission of Hand-in-Hand is to spread awareness, increase interaction and create unity among the community and those with special needs.
Background: Founded by the Society of Jesus in 1851, Saint Joseph's University advances the professional and personal ambitions of men and women by providing a demanding, yet supportive, educational experience. One of only 129 schools with a Phi Beta Kappa chapter and AACSB business school accreditation, Saint Joseph's is home to 4,500 full-time undergraduates and 3,200 graduate, part-time and doctoral students. Steeped in the 450-year Jesuit tradition of scholarship and service, Saint Joseph's was named to the 2008 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for General Community Service. The University strives to be recognized as the preeminent Catholic comprehensive university in the Northeast.
