Phillies to Receive AMA Marketer of the Year Award

Playoff contender to be recognized by AMA student chapter

Details: The Saint Joseph's University chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) will honor the Philadelphia Phillies organization with the annual Marketer of the Year Award on Thursday, Oct. 6.

The award is a staple of Saint Joseph’s University’s Marketing Week and past winners include restaurateur Stephen Starr and Jerry Lee (WBEB). This year Dave Beck, the Philadelphia Phillies’ Senior Vice President of Marketing and the Phillie Phanatic will accept the honor on behalf of the team. Following the award presentation, sports journalist Evan Weiner will discuss his new book, Labor Relations in the 4 Professional Leagues.

About: The Phillies have the best attendance and record in Major League Baseball and the award will recognize their continued excellence.

Evan Weiner is a sports journalist who focuses on the business and politics of sports. He has won two Associated Press awards for News Coverage as well as The United States Sports Academy Distinguished Service Award for Journalism.

The themes of this year’s Marketing Week are Sports & Entertainment Marketing. Saint Joseph's University’s sports marketing major was formalized this year. The University also offers a music industry minor and a variety of entertainment marketing courses. The Saint Joseph’s American Marketing Association (AMA) achieved GOLD status this past year.
