Academy of Food Marketing Names New Director

HigginsPHILADELPHIA (July 30, 2009) – Robert R. Higgins ’68, a resident of West Chester, Pa., has been named the new executive director of Saint Joseph’s University’s Academy of Food Marketing. Higgins replaces Charles Mallowe ’66 who served the University in the position for 41 years.

“Bob is a strategic leader with a vast understanding of the food business,” says Joseph DiAngelo, Ed.D. ’70, dean of HSB.  “He will be a valuable asset to the academy and to the department.”

Higgins joined the University in 2005 as executive director of the Center for Food Marketing where he expanded professional development programs for manufacturers and retailers and led the University’s Pennsylvania Institute for Food Marketing Education and Research (PIFMER) contract with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.

Prior to joining Saint Joseph’s, Higgins enjoyed a 30-year career as a senior executive in the consumer paper products business. He graduated from the University in 1968 with a bachelor of science degree.
