Comey Institute To Offer Courses On Labor Issues

PHILADELPHIA (February 22, 2008) — The Comey Institute of Industrial Relations at Saint Joseph's University in association with the Philadelphia AFL-CIO is launching a progressive program for the Institute by offering six new classes beginning on March 3, 2008.

The revitalization of the Comey Institute comes with a new director, Thomas Paine Cronin, who is excited about the many advancements that the new curriculum will offer.

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to further advance the work of the Comey Institute by expanding its programs to address such critical issues as globalization, trade policy, privatization and outsourcing and to understand their impact on the contemporary labor environment," Cronin said.

The following courses will be held at the Philadelphia Council AFL-CIO, 22 South 22nd St., on the 2nd floor:

  • Conflict Resolution, Mondays, Mar. 3-24, 6-9 p.m.

  • Building Trades Labor Law, Wednesdays, Mar. 5-Apr. 23, 6-7:30 p.m.

  • Grievance and Arbitration Wednesdays, Mar. 5-Apr. 23, 7:30-9:30 p.m.

  • Public Relations, Thursdays, Mar. 6-Apr. 24, 6-7:30 p.m.

The following course is being offered at Philaposh Offices, 3001 Walnut St.:

  • Occupational Health and Safety, Tuesdays, Mar. 4-25, 6-9 p.m.

A Public Sector Labor Law course is being held at SEIU Local 1201, 455 North 5th St., Wednesday, Mar. 5, 6-9 p.m.
