Stephen Starr to Receive Marketer of the Year Award

StarrPHILADELPHIA (Oct. 7, 2009) — Stephen Starr, owner of Starr Restaurants, one of the fastest-growing restaurant companies in the United States, will be honored with Saint Joseph’s University’s American Marketing Associations’ Marketer of the Year Award on Thursday, Oct. 8.

Starr’s restaurants include Buddakan, The Continental, Pod and Morimoto, among others, with locations in Philadelphia, New York City and Atlantic City. During the luncheon and general meeting, Starr will receive his award and subsequently hold a question and answer session.

Every year during the first full week of October, collegiate chapters of the American Marketing Association (AMA) celebrate marketing and business with events designed to build community and give valuable insight into the business world.

This year’s marketing week kicked off Monday with a meet-and-greet held outside the Campion Student Center.

“The goal of Marketing Week is to provide fun, interesting and informative programs that will hopefully encourage students to meet new people in the marketing industry and expand their network to include people who could potentially help them find internship or job opportunities,” said Lisa Tarantino’10, president of Saint Joseph’s AMA.

To close out the week of celebration, the chapter will embrace both Saint Joseph’s commitment to scholarship and service and the chapter’s own commitment to preventing violence in Philadelphia by holding a donation-based yoga. All proceeds will benefit Women Against Abuse, a Philadelphia program that assists victims of domestic violence and their children.

Saint Joseph’s AMA chapter has won awards in fundraising, professional development, community service and membership at the Collegiate Conference over the past several years. Most recently, they were awarded Outstanding Organization and named one of the top 15 collegiate chapters in the US.
