Housing Assignments (Incoming Freshmen)/Housing Lottery (Current Freshmen and Upperclassmen)

Freshman housing assignments are made in late-June, immediately following the typical mid-June deadline for incoming freshmen to contract on line for housing. Priority for student preference (building choice) is based upon deposit date. Students typically receive their housing assignment by mail during the first week of August. This mailing will list the student’s housing assignment and directory information for his/her roommate(s) so that students can make contact prior to arriving on campus.

Rising sophomore students (current freshmen) conduct housing selection through a computerized on-line lottery system. Students are prepared for the upcoming housing process by electronic and paper communication as well as informational sessions held in the spring semester. Students deposit and contract for entry into the lottery and then receive a date and time during which they can select a room. The actual housing selection process generally takes place in mid-spring.

Rising juniors and seniors (current sophomores and juniors) are offered housing on a space-available basis. If more rising juniors and seniors seek housing than there is space available, a randomly generated group from this population of students who seek housing will be selected and offered participation in the lottery. Those who are selected to participate in the lottery will be directed to deposit and complete a housing contract. Once they have completed this process they are guaranteed an on-campus housing assignment. Those who are not selected can begin the process of seeking off-campus housing through the Off-Campus Housing Coordinator/Community Liaison at 610-660-1003 or in Campion 239.

The Residence Life Office provides extensive literature explaining the housing lottery, and students are encouraged to review this information with their parents. Students who have questions that are not answered by the published information can contact the Residence Life Office at 610-660-1060.

Internships

Students seeking internship opportunities can do so through the Career Development Office in Overbrook Hall (610-660-3100). Career Development offers several workshops throughout the year on finding and applying for internships, offers students individual assistance and hosts on-campus interviews.

More details can be found at the Career Development web site:

Living Learning-Academic Housing

Living Learning offers students various academic communities in which to live.  These communities support students’ majors, career goals and personal interests. Incoming freshmen simply select on their web-based housing form which, if any, academic housing options they wish to be placed in. Preference will be given based upon deposit date for housing (the earlier the deposit date, the better chance a student has of receiving a first preference).

Upperclassmen need to apply for the upperclassmen academic communities. Applications, and information on the processes used for both freshmen and upperclassmen, are available on the Living Learning web site:

Parent Visits: Residence Hall Procedure

Parents may visit students at any time. Parents should identify themselves as such at the security desk. Abiding by the University's guest policy, the desk attendant/officer will ask parents to contact students by phone for students to come to the lobby and escort parents into the building. Parents should bring with them the telephone number (cell or room telephone number) for their students upon arrival to ease the process of contacting students.

Parking for Parent Visits

Parents may park in campus lots while visiting students. Parents who receive a parking ticket may have the ticket voided by taking the ticket to the Security office, rear of Barbelin (facing the athletic field).  Either the parent or the student can do this.
