2009-2010

  • Recruitment of three additional Jesuits to Saint Joseph’s University
  • Haub School of Business offers 10 online graduate courses in Business Intelligence
  • College of Arts & Sciences offers 57 online courses in the following: Criminal Justice, Health Administration, Instructional Technology, OATCERT, and Special Education

  • BusinessWeek ranked Saint Joseph’s Haub School of Business as one of the top undergraduate business programs in the country; at No. 57, SJU is one of only three Philadelphia schools included in the Top 60; placed at No. 18 in the U.S. by recruiters who hire HSB graduates
  • Kinney Center for Autism Education and Support established through a $7.5M gift

  • Erivan K. Haub School of Business establishes the Center for Consumer Research
  • Hawks’ Landing opens, including a five-story 460 space parking facility, retail stores and the University Bookstore ($19M)
  • Public phase of largest capital campaign in University history launched; goal of $150M
  • General Education Program approved by the University Council, the President, and the Board of Trustees

  • Saint Joseph’s named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll
  • U.S. News & World Report ranked Saint Joseph’s part-time MBA Program in the Top 25 (23rd) in the  United States and No. 1 in Philadelphia
  • Saint Joseph’s is one of 222 colleges named a Best Northeastern College by The Princeton Review (2007 edition)
  • Peterson’s Four-Year Colleges ranks Saint Joseph’s as “very difficult” entrance level
  • Barron’s Profiles of American Colleges ranks Saint Joseph’s as “very competitive” (27th edition – 2007)

  • Program Review Process implemented
  • Asian Studies Program expanded as result of $2.5M gift
  • iSJU implemented: a student-developed program to expand spiritual opportunities for freshmen
  • Contemporary Pedagogies and the Ignatian Tradition pilot program implemented; six grants awarded

  • Pedro Arrupe Center for Business Ethics established through a $1M gift
  • U.S. News also ranked the SJU part-time MBA program #1 in Philadelphia
  • SJU adopts strategic plan, Plan 2010: The Path to Preeminence
  • Agreement signed to purchase the Merion campus from the Episcopal Academy (now called the James J. Maguire ’58 Campus)
  • SJU launches Catholic Bioethics Institute
  • Philadelphia Business Journal ranks SJU among top 40 places to work
  • SJU’s Office of Mission launches “First 100 Days”—a comprehensive and interactive program to welcome new students & to introduce the University community’s efforts to promote Catholic and Jesuit identity
  • SJU opens its doors to 37 students displaced from Loyola New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina

  • Saint Joseph’s Haub School of Business part-time M.B.A. Program ranked No. 20 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report
  • Saint Joseph’s named Education Leader of the Year by Keystone Mercy Health Plan and the West Philadelphia Coalition of Neighborhoods and Businesses
  • Two new Residence Halls open on City Avenue, named Borgia Hall and Rashford Hall ($30M)
  • Early Responders Distance Learning Center and Center for Food Marketing awarded a $750,000 contract from the United States Department of Agriculture to develop online courses aimed at protecting the nation’s food supply from contamination and agro terrorism
  • The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, in collaboration with SJU, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburg, Lehigh Valley Hospital, and Drexel University will receive a $5 million research grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Health to compare the effectiveness of two behavioral therapies for reducing the number of minority adolescents who smoke
  • The Ervin K. Haub School of Business named one of the nation’s most outstanding business schools by The Princeton Review’s Best 143 Business Schools
  • The Brian C. Duperreault ’69 Chair for Risk Management and Insurance established

2003-2004

  • Inaugural year of Timothy R. Lannon, S.J. as 26th President
  • SJU achieves ranking of 10 from U.S. News & World Report in the category Best Universities – Master’s (North) in the 2005 edition of “America’s Best Colleges”
  • Alumni Service Program Launched
  • Risk Management and Insurance Program established in the Haub School of Business
  • Early Responders Distance Learning Center and Center for Food Marketing awarded a $1.5 million grant from the Food and Drug Administration to provide the food industry with methods to defend against, respond to, and recover from attacks to the food supply
  • SJU Men’s Basketball team reached No.1 in the national rankings with an undefeated regular season (27 – 0)
  • SJU, Marquette University, and Loyola University of Chicago receive a $428,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education to create an online accelerated teacher certification program in middle/secondary education
  • Ignatian College Connection (ICC) established—enables economically challenged students to afford an SJU education
  • University Vision Statement adopted: “Saint Joseph’s will be recognized as the preeminent Catholic, comprehensive university in the Northeast”
