Anticipating Saint Joseph’s Next Milestones
Made possible by With Faith and Strength to Dare: The Campaign for Saint Joseph’s University, two remaining initiatives will transform SJU into a truly great university that helps students realize their full intellectual, physical and spiritual potential.

John R. Post ’60 Academic Center and John and Maryanne Hennings Post Learning Commons
Rising in steel, glass and stone, the Post Learning Commons will strengthen the University’s tradition of inquiry, collaboration, academic rigor and engagement.
The Post Learning Commons will be the foundation of Saint Joseph’s dynamic 21st century learning environment. It will meet the research, study, technological and multi-tasking needs of students and faculty while providing a lively forum for academic discourse. The opening of this world-class facility is slated for spring 2012.
New Athletic Fields
Open space on the James J. Maguire ’58 Campus is being developed into four new athletic fields during 2011-12.This effort will provide our students greater access to outdoor physical activities, ranging from varsity sports to intramurals and recreation.
Since 1929, Saint Joseph’s ten different varsity squads and the student body have shared Finnesey Field, the University’s only outdoor athletic space. Many teams have practiced and played their home games at other locations. With completion of the baseball field scheduled for spring 2012, SJU’s varsity baseball team will have home field advantage for the first time since 1959. Likewise, women’s field hockey will be coming home this fall for the first time since 2007.
A tennis complex and the Honorable Michael A. O’Pake, Esq. ’61 Recreation Center on Maguire Campus are already being used by more than 75 percent of SJU students daily, according to estimates by the University’s Athletics Department. The new fields will create opportunities for club sports, intramurals and recreation.
From learning facilities to athletic spaces, the completion of each campaign initiative is a milestone in fulfilling the Jesuit mission of cura personalis, care of the whole person.
