Redefining Saint Joseph’s
With Faith and Strength to Dare: The Campaign for Saint Joseph’s University, the most successful campaign in Saint Joseph’s history, has changed our University forever.
More than 400 lead contributors celebrated the campaign’s conclusion on April 16 in the Michael J. Hagan ’85 Arena at a black-tie gala themed, "We Are Called: Celebrating Our Journey Together." The evening’s program recognized how donors’ unprecedented support of campaign priorities is redefining our University.
"When the Board of Trustees approved this Campaign, we endorsed a goal that was more ambitious than anything we had ever conceived of in the past," said Board of Trustees chair Paul Hondros ’70. "We immersed ourselves in the initiatives that would strengthen the University fiscally, academically and strategically."
Countless students, faculty, families and community members already are experiencing profound benefits that will endure for generations through the realization of campaign priorities:
- James J. Maguire ’58 Campus nearly doubled the University’s footprint and provides facilities, technology and public spaces that dramatically enhance learning and teaching while providing opportunity for expansion of academic programs.
- Kinney Center for Autism Education and Support reaches more than 1,000 families with services, guidance and resources that help improve Autism awareness and care.
- Michael J. Hagan ’85 Arena strengthens our community through a shared passion for Hawk Hill basketball and showcase our state-of-the-art facilities, student-athletes and school spirit.
- Jack Ramsay ’49 Basketball Center provides a centralized location that supports the needs of our Division I men’s and women’s basketball programs.
- Maryanne Hennings and John R. Post ’60 Learning Commons will inspire generations of students and faculty to reach higher levels of achievement by providing a dynamic, technologically advanced center for academic inquiry.
- Faculty Support, Student Financial Aid and The Saint Joseph’s Fund are creating new programs and opportunities that enrich our learning community.
The campaign has redefined philanthropy at SJU. Despite one of the most severe economic downturns in the nation’s history, alumni, parents and friends contributed generously, enabling the University to raise $152.1 million, more than triple the amount raised in the University’s previous campaign.
Anthony A. Nichols ’67, campaign chair, said, "Together we have made tremendous strides on this journey for this great University. We have accomplished so much because of your partnership and your willingness to embrace the vision of what Saint Joseph’s University can become."
With continuing momentum from the campaign, Saint Joseph’s is redefining itself to fulfill our goal of becoming the Northeast’s preeminent Catholic comprehensive university.
