Turning Dreams into Reality

When the Maguire family boldly came forward with generous support to help Saint Joseph’s realize the dream of becoming a larger and greater University, they inspired many others to join them. In all, 86 major benefactors supported the campus acquisition — the largest number of donors to any single SJU initiative thus far — including 66 who have named spaces there.

At the Dedication Ceremony honoring benefactors of the James J. Maguire ’58 Campus, master of ceremonies, Jeanne Brady, Ph.D., Associate Dean of Education, recognized the magnitude of generosity of our donors and the enormous impact of their gifts. “The new campus fulfills dreams of expanding our academic programs and advancing our University’s mission in ways that seemed impossible just a few years ago,” said Brady.

Students and faculty are already reaping extraordinary benefits from the wide variety of expanded facilities, advanced technology and new programs on the Maguire Campus.

Merion Hall features many additional learning spaces:

  • Technology Classrooms and the Education Learning Labs enable students to practice teaching skills.
  • The new Curriculum Library provides access to resources needed for student teaching.
  • The new Communications Studies Lab enables students to share content from laptops on display screens to enhance group interaction and project-based learning.
  • The expanded Writing Center now has triple the capacity and plenty of data-access ports, allowing students from a variety of majors throughout the university develop vital skills.

Connelly Hall, home to the Kinney Center for Autism Education and Support, has additional science labs for students who are now able to take science courses in the new General Education Program curriculum.

The new Beatrice F. Nicoletti Music Studio provides state-of-the-art facilities for students to study, rehearse, compose, analyze and perform music. Paris Auditorium offers new opportunities for students to perform and our community to enjoy performing arts.

Stately residences have been renovated to become Margaret Duperreault Hall and Henry “Hank” A. Quinn ’56 Hall, the new offices of Development and Alumni Relations.

Green space and athletic fields draw students to relax or study outdoors, or participate in expanded intramural and club-sport programs. Saint Joseph’s Athletics have a new home for intercollegiate baseball, softball, field hockey and tennis.

“In every way,” said Josephine Mandeville, President and CEO of the Connelly Foundation, “the Maguire Campus is a broadening of the opportunities here at Saint Joseph’s University for the wonderful students of today and also of tomorrow.”
