Autism Studies Minor Earns Behavior Analyst Certification

PHILADELPHIA (February 27, 2011) —As the autism field grows, future care providers are seeking the proper training and credentials from their undergraduate coursework to give them a competitive edge. Saint Joseph’s University’s Kinney Center for Autism Education and Support recently applied for and received approval for its minor in autism studies from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board, Inc.® (BACB).


Tony Melendez to Perform a Night of Extraordinary Music

Smith, S.J., Memorial, Wednesday, March 14, at 7 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Melendez is both a singer and an accomplished guitar player — but part of his remarkable talent is that he plays with his feet.


Faith-Justice Institute to Celebrate 35th Anniversary

SJU, Cumberland County Enter Transfer Agreement

PHILADELPHIA (March 7, 2012)– Saint Joseph’s University and Cumberland County College (CCC) now support a dual admissions partnership. The agreement allows students at the two-year school based in Vineland, N.J., to transfer to complete a four-year degree through Saint Joseph’s University College of Professional and Liberal Studies (CPLS).


AFROTC Celebrates New Lieutenants, 60 Years on Campus

PHILADELPHIA (May 17, 2012) – On Saturday, May 19, five seniors of Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) Detachment 750 will commission as Second Lieutenants in the United States Air Force. The ceremony, to be held in the Chapel of St. Joseph – Michael J. Smith, S.J., Memorial on Saint Joseph’s University campus, will be followed by a celebration of the detachment’s 60th anniversary.


Program Gives Students Opportunity for Summer Travel, Service

While many students anticipated the arrival of summer as a time to unwind, 48 SJU students were instead anticipating their departure on service trips to Ecuador, Guatemala and New Mexico. The students, selected from a pool of over 100 applicants to this year’s Summer Immersion Programs, attended a Commissioning Mass on the eve of their journeys, which are taking place from May 15th through May 24th.


Classicist Heads to Scotland on St. Andrew’s Scholarship

<p>PHILADELPHIA (June 5, 2012) &ndash; Saint Joseph&rsquo;s University junior Alex Houpert of West Hartford, Conn., has been awarded the Cmdr. George C. McFarland Scholarship from the St. Andrew&rsquo;s Society of Philadelphia. The $20,000 scholarship will fund his upcoming junior year of study at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.</p>


Immersion Programs Set Bar High for Annual Auction

The organizers of the 2009-2010 Summer Immersion Program (SIP) Auction hope to surpass last year’s fundraising efforts, setting the bar at $25,000. The success of past auctions, including the $16,000 raised last winter, has SIP organizers and participants hopeful that this year’s auction – to be held on Wed., Dec. 2 – will get them even closer to the $70,000 needed to pay for the immersion trips. The auction will be held in the banquet hall of Campion Student Center.


Student Entrepreneur Speaks at International Conference

With sweaty palms, Joseph Mirarchi grips the podium positioned at the front of a conference room at NYU Stern’s Berkley Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Just two days prior, he learned he was the only undergraduate student presenting at the 6th Annual Conference of Social Entrepreneurs on Nov. 4. Poised in front of the room of distinguished academics, Mirarchi is composed and articulate, despite his sweaty palms, as he addresses the crowd.


New Food Distribution Model Tackles Hunger in Philadelphia
