This is a basic, and graphic, introduction to the skeletal anatomy of fish, and particularly to the diversity of skeletal anatomy of Chondrichthyes. As you will see in this web site, the internal skeletons of cartilaginous and bony fishes are composed of the same fundamental units that differ between fishes principally in terms of their functional and evolutionary specializations. The details of the cranial bones of the lower Actinopterygii are diagrammed elsewhere.
