Listracanthus sp.

fossil Listracanthus scale Listracanthus is known from isolated scales and patches of skin found in Upper Mississippian and Pennsylvanian marine deposits. It is a chondrichthyan, but otherwise it is unknown. This shark got very large; the picture is of a single scale. These scales stood up on the back of the shark, while coarse button-like scales (Petrodus) lay more ventrally.
