Frequently Asked Questions
Are First and Second Year students required to live in |
| Yes. Residential living is a valuable part of a student’s social and educational experience; therefore, first and second year students are required to live in University housing. Requests for exceptions
to this requirement will be reviewed in the event that a student lives with a parent or guardian or has extraordinary financial or medical needs. Requests for an exception must be submitted in writing to the Housing Contract Review Committee, c/o the Office of Residence Life, and include supporting documentation. |
When do I find out about my housing assignment/roommate? |
The Housing Contract & Preference Information are to be submitted via the web to the Office of Residence Life by June 10th, 2007. Room and roommate assignment will be available online (via MYSJU) in early August. |
Now that I have my room assignment, can I come to campus to see my room? |
How do you make roommate assignments? |
Roommate assignments are based on common preferences indicated on the Housing Preference Information Sheet. A student may indicate on line four of this sheet with whom they would like to share a room. Specific roommate requests are optional. However, if indicated, the requests must be mutual and deposited by May 1st. |
What if I do not get the housing choice I prefer? |
Housing assignments are made based on deposit date. The truth is, however, there is only so much available space in each building. Every building has its own unique and awesome community. We ask that you give your building/community a chance, and we will work with you on a room change the second week of classes, once you have arrived and have experienced the residence hall communities. |
What if I do not like my roommate? |
We understand that you may come to Orientation and find someone you feel very compatible with, or that you may talk to your roommate and question whether you will like him/her. We ask that you give the person a fair chance (they have feelings too). If you decide that a change must occur, room changes are permitted after the second week of classes. |
What size are the rooms - i.e. if I want to buy carpet? |
The average size carpet that we recommend that students purchase is 9' x 12.' Carpet can be purchased on opening day on campus. |
