Residence Hall Programming
As part of integrating the residents into a community atmosphere as well as educating them, SJU's Resident Assistants provide programs for their residents. These programs address a wide variety of topics from academic success to current events. The Office of Residence Life embraces a Living Learning philosophy in which we consider our student residences an extension of the classroom. To this end, academically focused programs featuring faculty speakers are held in all student residences. This creates a bridge to the classroom and allows faculty and students to interact in their home setting.
In planning programs, RA's take into consideration the interests of their residents. Residents are also encouraged to approach the RA's with ideas for rogramming.
The Residence Life Staff organizes between 50 and 60 programs per month throughout the residence halls. Some of the most common programs are movie nights, trips to cultural events and the art museum, hall athletic competitions, educational video s/presentations, faculty receptions, community service projects, theme decorating contests among halls (Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day) and blood drives.
Academically focused programs include study skills, How to Choose a Major, the 1-2-3's of course selection, and overcoming test anxiety presentations.
The following schedule shows some programs that we have held in the past. We hope that this gives you a feel for the types of programs that we run at Saint Joseph's.
