2. Do you require the Profile?
No.
3. When will I receive my Financial Aid Package from SJU?
Packages are mailed to all accepted students who have filed a FAFSA the end of March.
4. When must I return the Award Letter?
By May 1.
5. Do I need to do an additional application for state grants?
- If you live in Pennsylvania and have filed the FAFSA before May 1, you are automatically considered for the state grant. No additional form is needed.
- If you live out of state, please check your state office for forms and deadlines.
- For a complete state listing, please go to the U.S. Department of Education´s database at www.ed.gov/Programs/bastmp/SHEA.htm
6. What are the main differences between a PLUS loan and an alternative loan?
- The PLUS loan is in the parents´ name and payment usually starts after the second disbursement. Upon request, payment deferment privileges may be available with some restrictions.
- The alternative loan is a student loan with a cosigner with repayment starting six months after graduation.
- Work study positions are usually office jobs on campus.
- Students will be paid directly by the University every two weeks.
- Work study funds will not be deducted from the invoice.
- You will be notified of job availability via your SJU email about two weeks before fall classes start if you have accepted work study on your Award Acknowledgement Form.
8. How do I know if I am eligible for work study?
- Work study eligibility is determined by the FAFSA.
- If you are eligible, it will appear on your Award Letter.
9. Why is my PHEAA State Grant not appearing on my invoice?
PHEAA State Grants will be credited to accounts the first week of classes. Please refer to the back of your invoice for instructions on pending aid.
10. What do I do if I receive my award letter with not enough time to return it in a 10 day period?
Due to some delays in postal delivery you may not receive your award letter in time to comply with the 10 day return request. Please return your completed award letter as soon as possible after you receive it to avoid delays in financial aid processing.
11. What is the tuition and room and board at Saint Joseph's University?
- Tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year is $37,670. Estimated Room and Board is approximately $12,800. These rates do not include student fees associated with specific majors or residence halls.
12. Is there a way to communicate Special Circumstances and request additional funding from SJU?
- The Office of Financial Assistance strives to offer families the best financial aid packages possible within the limitations of federal financial aid funding levels and our institutional student financial aid budget. If you or your parents have experienced loss of income/unemployment, death of a wage earner or significant medical expense not covered by insurance within the past twelve months, you may submit a Special Circumstances Appeal Form for consideration. If you do not fall within the guidelines of the Special Circumstances Appeal but want SJU to review your award, please complete the Request for Additional Funding.
