Several weeks ago an elderly male was struck and killed by an Amtrak train at the Overbook Train Station at 63rd St. and City Ave. At the time of that incident the male was illegally crossing over the railroad tracks from the 63rd Street platform to the Drexel Rd side platform. In response to this incident, as well as two more recent incidents of trains having to stop to avoid hitting pedestrians crossing the tracks, the Amtrak Police have instituted aggressive enforcement by issuing trespassing citations to anyone observed illegally crossing over the railroad tracks. Some of our University students have already been issued citations for this offense. The only authorized legal crossing, from one platform to the other, is by either going through the provided underground passageway or by crossing over the sidewalk on the overhead bridge that traverses the railroad tracks. We are asking that everyone within the University community, that has a need to pass through this location, abide by all Amtrak regulations as they relate to the legal crossover procedures of this train station and all other train stations within the Amtrak and S.E.P.T.A. commuter network.
