The HawkCard is the official identification card for Saint Joseph's University.
It provides easy access to University resources. With innovative technologies comes one convenient and powerful card. You can use your card for photo identification, library services, sports complex access, dining services, building access, and laundry and copy machines.
You should carry your HawkCard with you at all times. It is against University rules and regulations to lend your card to another person.

Hawk Cash
- Your HawkCard features a smart chip on the front of the card. Hawk Cash is money that can be stored on the chip and used for small-value purchases such as doing your laundry, using copy machines or printers, vending machines and the Bookstore.
- You can place up to $99.00 of Hawk Cash on your card using the cash-to-card machines in the Drexel Library, the cafeteria and in the lobbies of LaFarge, Sourin and McShain Halls. There are no fees.
- Hawk Cash offersconvenient, fast, safe, and easy service. Transactions on campus will take just a few seconds, and you do not need to carry cash!
- Funds deposited on your HawkCard chip are treated as cash and cannot be refunded if the card is lost or stolen.
Dining Services
- The magnetic stripe on the back of the HawkCard is used at the dining areas for meal plan management and Flex Dollars usage.
Important Note: The Hawk Cash stored on the smart chip isseparate from the flex dollars used at the campus dining areas. So if you lose your HawkCard, you WILL NOT lose the flex dollars on your dining account.
Library Services
- In addition to copy and print services, use the HawkCard to checkout books.
- The HawkCard is used for swipe access to resident halls, academic and administrative buildings and the Sport Complex.

Q. What is the HawkCard?
A. The HawkCard is the official ID for Saint Joseph?s University. The HawkCard is issued upon your association with the University and is your permanent ID throughout your affiliation with SJU.
Q. Who needs a HawkCard?
A. All students, faculty, staffand affiliates (e.g. retirees, alumni) who use certain University services.
Q. What if I do not have a Card?
A. You may not have access to all of the University services or resources. To acquire a card, go to the Security Office in Barbelin, Room 13.
Q. How do I get a HawkCard?
A. You can pick up your HawkCard in the Security office.
Q. Is there a fee for the HawkCard?
A. Your first HawkCard will be issued at no cost. However, there is a $10.00 fee to replace your card. If the card is lost more than once, there is a $20.00 fee to replace the card.
The University is not responsible for any loss or expense resulting from the loss, theft, or misuse of your card.
Q. Is there a special way to care for my HawkCard?
A. Yes Your card has value, so it is important to take care of it. To prevent damage, always keep it in a wallet or other protective card case. Do not mark, bend, punch holes in, scratch the stripe on or tamper with the HawkCard chip.
Q. Can I still punch a hole in my card and carry it on my key chain?
A. No, when a hole is punched through the protective seal on the HawkCard, your card becomes more susceptible to damage. Further, your card may be rendered unusable in the cash-to-card load stations.
Q. What is Hawk Cash?
A. Hawk Cash is money (maximum $99.00) stored on the chip on your card. The chip can be used for laundry and library copy machines and printers. It can also be used in vending machines and the Bookstore.
Q. How do I place money on the Hawk Cash chip?
A. You can add value to your HawkCard using the cash-to-card stations located in the cafeteria, LaFarge, Sourin, McShain and the Drexel Library.
Q. What happens to my Hawk Cash if my card is lost or stolen?
A. Value stored on the Hawk Cash chip is treated as cash. If your card is lost or stolen, money cannot be refunded or transferred to a replacement card.
Q. If my card is lost, do I also lose the flex dollars from my dining plan?
A. No, your flex dollars are not lost. But you must report the lost card immediately to the Security and Dining Offices.
Q. What other services are available using the new HawkCard?
A. The HawkCard is used for building access. If you are a resident student, you will use the card to "swipe" into your resident hall. The HawkCard is also used for after-hours access to classroom buildings when authorized by the Security Office.
