Escort Policy

The escort service is intended to supplement our shuttle service. Escorts will be provided to residences not serviced by the shuttle and residences on the shuttle schedule during the period when the shuttle does not operate. The purpose of the escort service is to safely transport members of the community to and from the main campus to residences reasonably close to campus. The escort service is not intended to serve as a taxi service. We cannot provide transportation to locations such as Center City Philadelphia, Roxborough, Philadelphia International Airport, 30th Street Train Station etc. The escort service will not transport students from one off-campus location to another off-campus location. Escorts will be provided to and from the Overbrook Train Station when the trains are in service.

Reminder -- As when using public transportation, allow yourself sufficient time to get to class or your destination. Everyone cannot ride at once.

SHUTTLE SERVICE
Saint Joseph’s University operates two shuttles.

The WEST shuttle runs between Main Campus and Lancaster Court.

The WEST shuttle operates during following hours:
Mondays - Thursdays - 7:20am until 12:50am
Fridays - 7:20am until 3:50am
Saturdays - 9:20am until 3:50am
Sundays - 9:20am until 12:50am 

The EAST shuttle runs between Main Campus and the Presidential Apartments.

The EAST shuttle operates from during the following hours:
Mondays - Thursdays - 7:20am until 11:20PM
Fridays - 7:20am until 3:50am
Saturdays - 9:20am until 3:50am
Sundays - 9:20am until 12:50am

NOTES:  Students traveling from West Campus to locations East of Campus and students traveling from East of  Campus to West Campus should transfer at Mandeville Hall. Factors such as traffic and weather may adversely impact the schedule.  Also, not everyone  can ride at the same time.  Students should allow sufficient time to get to class. (The listed times are approximations, traffic volume plays an important role, the shuttle will run in a continuous route)

Following are the guidelines of the Department of Public Safety and Security Escort Program. This program is a supplemental program to the University Shuttle Service. The Escort Program fills the gap in our shuttle service during the hours of darkness and in unusual circumstances. Escorts may be given on foot as well as a vehicle. Escorts will be available to all persons who request an escort, including students, staff, employees, visitors and/or guests.

Escorts will be provided:

• To and from any campus owned buildings or parking lot which is not in the close proximity of our shuttle service.
• To and from the main campus to any off campus apartment building between the Schuylkill Expressway and 63rd St.
• To and from your auto during night time hours if it is parked off campus.
• To and from the 7-11 or Larry's steak shop 11:00PM to 7:00AM.
• During any unusual instance or emergency, with the approval of the shift supervisor.
• Walking escorts will be provided after dark on the main campus. This includes to and from shuttle stops.

Escorts will not be provided:

• To off campus liquor establishments.
• To Larry's steak shop or the 7-11 from 7:00AM to 11:00PM.
• To and from off campus residences to other off campus residences.
• Any location in close proximity to shuttle stops.

Note: Students should be encouraged to walk freely to and from any location on our Central or Merion Campus and the Fieldhouse area.

REMEMBER: The escort service is for safety and not convenience. These procedures will be followed unless directed differently by a supervisor.
