Philosophy
The Student Health Center subscribes to a definition of health that includes the attainment, maintenance and lifelong commitment to an optimum level of wellness. This philosophy is rooted in the Jesuit educational tradition in which there is integration of learning with the development of the person.

Mission
The Student Health Center strives to assist students in the pursuit of their academic goals and personal development by identifying and addressing health situations which impede student learning. This mission is served by the provision of high quality health care as well as health promotion that facilitates the development of the whole person.

Student Health Insurance- Policy Change

Saint Joseph's University will require students to show proof of health insurance coverage beginning Fall 2008.  This change is being made to ensure students’ physical and financial health.

Health insurance provides protection against the often disastrous financial consequences of serious illnesses and injuries.  Often young, healthy adults may think they do not need health insurance, but without it, an accident or illness could put them in debt for years.  While SJU students do not need health insurance to be evaluated and treated in the Student Health Center, they are responsible for any hospital, doctor, or lab fees charged for services received off campus.

Students no longer covered on a parent’s policy, or attending school outside their HMO/PPO region, will be required to purchase the University sponsored plan.  It is anticipated that the plan will cost between $1000-1500/year.  Further information will be available Spring 2008.
