2006 Research Symposium



The 2006 joint meeting of the 17th Annual Saitn Joseph's University Sigma Xi Student Research Symposium and the 60th Annual Eastern Colleges Science Conference was a great success. Nearly 600 faculty and students from some 60 colleges and universities throughout the northeast, mid-atlantic and mid-west regions presented more than 225 posters and 70 talks.

The ECSC judged all of the presentations at the meeting and the following are lists of awards for presentations found to be exceptional. We hope that you will join us next year for the 18th Annual Saint Joseph's University Sigma Xi Student Research Symposium to be held on Friday, April 20, 2007. Our keynote speaker will be George Coyne, S.J., Director of the Vatican Observatory. More information will be posted in the fall.

Welcome

Welcome to the web site for the joint meeting of the 17th Annual Saint Joseph’s University Sigma Xi Student Research Symposium and the 60th Annual Eastern Colleges Science Conference. The meeting will take place on April 22 at the Saint Joseph’s University campus in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with early registration open on the evening of Friday, April 21, for out of town attendees. All of the events of the meeting will take place during the day and evening on Saturday, April 22

The Symposium is open to both undergraduate and graduate students engaged in research in the areas of Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, the Natural and the Social Sciences. Students may present their work in either poster form or as an oral presentation (see the “Presentation Information” page for more information).

This joint meeting will follow the format used by the Eastern College Science Conference. Students can present their work in either poster form or in the form of an oral platform presentation. In addition, students presenting at the conference may also submit a full-length manuscript of their research. Presentations and papers will be reviewed by a panel of faculty judges and awards for outstanding work will be presented at the banquet that evening.

The deadline for registration and submission of abstracts is Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at 5:00 pm EST. Please note that all participating faculty and students must individually complete a registration form to attend the meeting. Please use the "Symposium Registration" link on the left side of this page to do so. The registration fee for the symposium is $30 per person and the fee to attend the optional banquet at the Franklin Institute (seating is limited) is an additional $30 per person. Payment information is included in the on-line registration system. Payment may be made by mail (for checks and POs) in which case the envelope must be postmarked no later than March 24. Payment may also be made by credit card in which case the information must be FAXed in by March 24 as well. Please contact Dr. Mike McCann.

This year’s Keynote Speaker is Kathleen McGinty, Esq., Secretary for the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
