Time Line for 2010 Summer Scholars Program

Friday, October 30, 2009 – Formal announcement of the 2010 Summer Scholars Program to eligible students via e-mail.

Friday, November 20, 2009 – Electronic application system becomes activated.

Monday, February 8, 2010 – Deadline for submission of completed application, and proposal. All materials must be submitted using the electronic application system.

Friday, February 19, 2010 - 2 letters of recommendation, one from your prospective mentor and one from another person who knows you well, are due. We will contact the references you list on your application to request the letters.

Friday, March 5 , 2010 – Departments will submit prioritized lists of students to be supported by the Summer Scholars program.

March 15 -19, 2010 – The Summer Scholars Committee will review the applications and make awards based on departmental and faculty recommendations and the amount of funding available.

Monday, March 22, 2010 – Letters will be sent (by e-mail only) to all applicants indicating whether or not they have been selected for the 2010 Summer Scholars Program.

Friday, March 26, 20010 – Deadline for students offered 2010 Summer Scholars positions to accept or decline the position. In the event that positions are declined, positions will be offered to students on the alternate list.

Friday, April 2, 2010 – Deadline for alternates to accept or decline positions (if available)

Friday, April 16, 2010 – Deadline for 2010 Summer Scholars to complete and submit all required paperwork for human resources (and residence life, if on-campus housing was requested). Failure to complete required paperwork by this deadline may result in withdraw of the award.

Sunday, May 23, 2010 – Move in date for students granted on-campus housing. No other move in dates will be scheduled. Housing is provided for 11 weeks total until August 6.

Monday, May 24, 2010 – Formal start of the 2010 Summer Scholars Program (some scholars may start at other times as approved by their mentors); Summer Scholars and Faculty Mentors reception (time and location TBA)

Friday, August 6, 2010 – Conclusion of the Summer Scholars Program and move out day for students with on-campus housing.

November, 2010 – Annual Summer Scholars Dinner (date and location TBA)

March/April 2011 – Celebration of Student Achievement (dates and locations TBA)
