Time Line for 2009 Summer Scholars Program

Monday, October 27, 2008 – Formal announcement of the 2009 Summer Scholars Program to eligible students via e-mail.

Friday, November 14, 2008 – Electronic application system becomes activated.

Monday, February 9, 2009 – Deadline for submission of completed application, and proposal. All materials must be submitted using the electronic application system.

Friday, February 20, 2009 - 2 letters of recommendation, one from your prospective mentor and one from another person who knows you well, are due. We will contact the references you list on your application to request the letters.

Friday, March 6 , 2009 – Departments will submit prioritized lists of students to be supported by the Summer Scholars program.

March 16 - 20, 2009 – The Summer Scholars Committee will review the applications and make awards based on departmental and faculty recommendations and the amount of funding available.

Monday, March 23, 2009 – Letters will be sent (by e-mail only) to all applicants indicating whether or not they have been selected for the 2009 Summer Scholars Program.

Friday, March 27, 2009 – Deadline for students offered 2009 Summer Scholars positions to accept or decline the position. In the event that positions are declined, positions will be offered to students on the alternate list.

Friday, April 3, 2009 – Deadline for alternates to accept or decline positions (if available)

Friday, April 17, 2098 – Deadline for 2009 Summer Scholars to complete and submit all required paperwork for human resources (and residence life, if on-campus housing was requested). Failure to complete required paperwork by this deadline may result in withdraw of the award.

Sunday, May 17, 2009 (date tentative) – Move in date for students granted on-campus housing. No other move in dates will be scheduled.

Monday, May 18, 2009 (date tentative) – Formal start of the 2009 Summer Scholars Program; Summer Scholars and Faculty Mentors reception (time and location TBA)

Friday, July 31, 2009 (date tentative)– Conclusion of eleven week Summer Scholars Program and move out day for students with on-campus housing.

November, 2009 – Annual Summer Scholars Dinner (date and location TBA)

March/April 2010 – Celebration of Student Achievement (dates and locations TBA)
