SJU's Collegiate Challenge is a summer service immersion program affiliated with Habitat for Humanity International. The program began in the summer of 2004 with a single trip of 16 students to New Mexico and has grown each year since.  This year, the program will be sending 100 students between 5 different sites across the country (to Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Nevada and North Carolina).

Collegiate Challenge at SJU goes beyond the physical labor of the service project.  It allows students to develop a greater understanding of another culture within the United States, as well as grow intellectually and spiritually.  It challenges students to fulfill the Jesuit Ideal of being a man or woman with and for others in my day to day life.

In order for all of this to happen, Collegiate Challenge needs your help.  Collegiate Challenge Service Trips are entirely funded through the generosity of friends and family, who's donations make this program possible.

Sincerely,
Collegiate Challenge 2012

SJU Collegiate Challenge is a Habitat for Humanity summer service immersion program.  Groups of about 18 students will volunteer their time and energy to travel to Habitat affiliates throughout the United States. There, they participate in week-long building activities provided by their host site and learn about the culture and geography of the area in which they are immersed.

WHY Collegiate Challenge?  Nationwide there are more than 30 million Americans living in substandard housing. As a Catholic and Jesuit University, we called to be "men and women for others," committed to using our talents and abilities in service of others. Students are often amazed by the closeness of a group at the end of the trip. After a week of learning new skills and working hard alongside other students, you'll find closeness between yourself and the other participants that can only be forged in the process of working together to help others.

Participation in a Collegiate Challenge service trip is open to everyone who would like to dedicate a week of their summer to helping build housing with those in need, while having a great time doing it.  If you are interested in participating Collegiate Challenge 2012, please click the link above.
